A synth stab cracks the silence, then the drum machine charges forward like headlights. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nothing gentle, nothing polite, this is full-tilt 80s-inspired techno-disco pop with teeth. That opening is adrenaline wrapped in satire with a touch of nostalgia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jVu5JtawKGk?si=eRqR7nL98WPzSbKP\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/neonmusic.co.uk\/tag\/5-seconds-of-summer\">5 Seconds of Summer<\/a> released <em>\u201cBoyband\u201d<\/em> on <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boyband_%285_Seconds_of_Summer_song%29\">16 October 2025<\/a> as part of EVERYONE\u2019S A STAR! via Republic Records. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The writing credits include Ashton Irwin, Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings, Jason Evigan, John Ryan and Simon Wilcox; production is handled by Evigan &amp; Ryan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the outset, the band makes it clear: the label \u201cboyband\u201d that once boxed them in now becomes the badge they brandish openly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They wear fame fatigue in every pulsating line. <em>\u201cBoyband\u201d<\/em> tears away pop\u2019s glossy mask. Although the production is polished, you hear the cracks underneath. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The band refuse to bow to old versions of themselves. They twist and stretch expectations until \u201cboyband\u201d feels ambiguous again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The beat rides aggressively. The drum machine feels alive, pushing, pressing forward. The bass loops in hypnotic motion, anchoring chaos before jolting you again. The synths sparkle in layers. Bright tones crack against darker pads lurking underneath. Luke Hemmings\u2019 voice carries swagger and weariness at once.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cGive you, give you, give you, give you everything you want\u201d \u201cLove me when I&#8217;m skinny and we never, ever age\u201d <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">you hear a plea wrapped in sharp edges, bold, vulnerable, tentative. The gloss tries to mask tension but cannot erase it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then comes the pivot: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSame four chords, but it never feels the same, oh \/ Boy in a boyband, make that monkey dance\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s a jab at formula and expectation, and still the hook lands hard. That tension is the engine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They mock glamor and myth making, and yet they live inside those illusions. The electronics, the beats, the sheen, those are now their tools and their battleground.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll dance to <em>\u201cBoyband,\u201d<\/em> definitely. But you\u2019ll also hear the crack in the mirror. It gives you spectacle and stakes. Too many new pop songs coast in the palette of polish. <em>\u201cBoyband\u201d<\/em> is a thrilling song that strikes a rare balance in that it\u2019s visceral yet smart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Almost flawless. We only wish a bridge or moment that strips away more of the shell, pushes voice or production into rawer territory.
